FIP Story:We
had our first run in with the effusive form of FIP in
January of 2008. My sweet Tortie "Ms Puss" didn't feel
well for a few days so I took her to the Vet. After a
battery of tests and unsuccessful treatments with
antibiotic, it was determined that she had FIP. She died
less than a week after she was diagnosed. Then in April
of 2008, my sweet boy "Frosty", started to mope around
as well. Still scared because of the ordeal with Ms
Puss, I took him to the Vet immediately the next
morning. His fever was at 106 degrees and refused to go
down. He was put on antibiotics and prednisone and for a
few days, he got better and the Vet let him go home with
us. Then again, he took a nose-dive straight downhill.
He then was diagnosed with FIP. The fever came back, he
wouldn't eat, and finally one morning when I wanted to
give him his IV fluids and meds, he fought me like he
never fought me before. My Frosty was a sweet, very mild
mannered cat and I had never seen him like this before.
The IV injection site bruised him black and blue because
according to the Vet, all of his blood platelets were
next to non-existent. That morning Frosty started to
bleed from his eyes and nose and lost control of all his
bowels and bladder, I knew then what I had to do and I
cried the entire time on the way to the Vet, I wanted to
turn around quite a few times, I felt like as if I was
killing my cat, but I forced myself to keep on going.
Frosty meowed all the way there and I felt like as if he
was telling me not to have him put down, I felt so
terribly guilty, but I knew it was best for him. He was
only 4 years and I have trouble understanding why he was
attacked by this disease. Please check out his pet
